Road Traffic & Car Accident Claim Solicitors

Road traffic accidents have, unfortunately, become a part of modern living and they can lead to potentially serious consequences for those involved. The Department for Transport reports that 24,101 people were seriously injured as a result of an accident on the road in 2016. Sadly 1,792 were killed.

If you have been involved in a motoring accident, then you may be entitled to compensation.

It is important to engage a specialist solicitor as soon as possible after an accident. This will make it easier to gather information on the accident as it will be fresh in the minds of those involved. Additionally, many motor insurance companies try to settle the injury claim directly, which could result in less compensation awarded to you.

Grieves Solicitors has specialist road traffic accident solicitors who will work hard to make sure you obtain the compensation you deserve.

Call 0800 182 2171 to have a free, no obligation assessment of your situation.

What can I claim for?

Every case is different, but generally the more serious your injuries and the greater the impact your injuries have on your daily life, the more compensation you need to cover the financial cost of your accident.

Cases usually involve claims for two different types of compensation:

General damages

Compensation for the pain, suffering and loss of amenity you have suffered as a result of your accident related injuries. Essentially this is compensation for the impact of the accident on your physical and psychological health, as well as the impact on your everyday life. The sum to be paid will be decided by the court.

Special damages

Compensation for financial losses related to your accident.

Examples include:

  • your loss of earnings
  • travel expenses to medical appointments
  • motor insurance policy excess
  • repair costs
  • car hire charges
  • damaged property (from your vehicle)
  • medication treatment costs
  • other medical expenses, e.g. prescription fees

While this can seem a bit overwhelming, we have the expertise and experience to support you through the claims process, to make sure you obtain the maximum compensation possible.

How long do I have to claim?

Generally, in the UK, you must start a personal injury claim within 3 years from the date of the accident. There are, however, a number of exceptions to this general rule. If you believe you have a claim, you should contact us as soon as possible so we can advise you whether any of the exceptions apply to your personal situation.

How do I make a car accident injury claim?

To make an initial enquiry, call Grieves Solicitors today on 0800 182 2171 or complete our online enquiry form and we will be in touch.

We will provide you with a free, no-obligation assessment of your potential serious injury claim, after which you can decide whether or not you wish to proceed.

Who will pay my compensation?

Usually, the insurance company acting for the person responsible for the accident will pay your compensation. For this to happen, liability (legal responsibility) for the accident needs to be determined.

If you instruct us, we would liaise with the responsible driver and his/her car insurance company, to determine and agree liability. This can take some time as the responsible driver’s insurance company has 21 days to acknowledge the claim, and a further 3 months to admit or deny that their driver was at fault for the accident. This can be even longer if the insurance company needs to wait for a copy of a police report before responding to the claim.

What is the road traffic accident claims process?

Once the issue of liability is resolved, Grieves Solicitors would obtain details of any financial expenses you have incurred. We would also arrange a medical examination with a specialist to obtain a report which will be used to value your claim for the injuries you have sustained.

Only when this medical report has been approved by you would it be disclosed with the list of your expenses to the responsible driver's insurers requesting an offer in settlement of your case.

Resolution of a claim can take several months, and delays can occur if the accident circumstances are not straight forward.

At Grieves Solicitors, our team of specialists will do everything they can to resolve your case as quickly as possible whilst ensuring the best result for you.

Why claim car accident injury compensation?

Injuries from a car accident can have a significant impact on your quality of life. As well as the physical pain and discomfort, it could lead to financial losses due to time off work, as well as temporary or long-term psychological impacts.

Road traffic accidents involving a child can be particularly devastating. Grieves Solicitors has worked with road safety charity Brake to produce a fact sheet explaining the dangers of the road, how to keep safe and what to do in the event of a collision.

At Grieves Solicitors, we have a dedicated team of specialist, experienced solicitors who will work hard to get you the compensation you deserve. We handle all cases on a no win, no fee basis

Motorway Accident & Injury Claims

If you, or a member of your family, have been injured in a motorway accident caused by the negligence of another driver, you may be able to make a claim for compensation.

We regularly help the victims of motorway accidents claim for injuries, damage to their vehicle and bills incurred during a period spent out of work.

Motorway accidents are often caused by the unsafe driving of one individual, yet typically involve multiple cars, drivers and passengers. Motorway accidents can happen for a huge variety of reasons; common causes include:

  • Driving too close to the car in front
  • Hogging the middle lane
  • Driving at an inappropriate speed
  • Getting stuck behind a large vehicle
  • Wet or icy road surface

If you were not responsible for the accident and have sustained an injury or damage to your vehicle, you may be able to make a claim for compensation.

Motorway Accident Statistics

  • In 2017, 2,000 people died on the UK's roads; a further 20,000 were seriously injured
  • Accidents are most likely to happen on long, tedious roads, such as motorways and country roads
  • Around 100 people die on motorways every year, amounting to 5% of all road deaths
  • Most accidents happen in broad daylight, but tiredness is still a factor in many accidents
  • Not paying enough attention to the road (either because of distractions in or around the vehicle, being under the influence of alcohol, or being too tired to drive) is the main cause of accidents
